Week of November 7, 2016

This past weekend 49 students participated in Volleyball and Soccer SEASAC tournaments.  Events such as SEASAC, AMIS, WWW are peak experiences for our students as they provide opportunities for creating lasting memories.  It is the outside of the classroom experiences that provide our students with a framework to view future successes and failures. Winning, losing, learning how to communicate, and work together are skills we attempt to teach daily, but at events like SEASAC these skills were being called into action. Watching our students learn to navigate this bumpy road makes me confident that they will be better able to handle the varied experiences that life will present them. We encourage all students to participate in tournaments, performances, conferences that suits their areas of passion as they are rich with learning opportunities.

Last week the Secondary Leadership Team hosted a Parent Forum (The link to the ppt can be found here)

It was clear that although academics continue to be of high priority ensuring students safety, collaboration between school and home, and the use of technology is of equal importance.  During our parent meeting questions regarding technology, student learning, and motivation were discussed. Throughout the discussion it was clear that both parents and ISY believe the more we work together the more effective we will be in ensuring our ISY students not only achieve well academically, but possess the life skills that will allow them to be successful.

I would like to extend a big thank you to all the parents who attended the parent forum. If as a result of our evening discussion, you have further questions or comments, please let us know by clicking on the Link.

Below are sites that provide suggestions for some of the issues discussed:
As a result of our parent feedback in combination with our school goals the following will be occurring:
  • Continue to investigate how ISY can utilize Google Classroom in ways that will allow parents more access to classroom information.
  • ISY will host a parent education session on how to navigate Google Classroom and internet safety on November 22, 2016, at 5:30 PM.
  • ISY will host additional teacher training to ensure effective and consistent Google Classroom usage November – December 2016
  • ISY teachers will continue to moderate student assessments to ensure consistency in grading and marking.
