We hope you all enjoyed this past weekend's Secondary School Musical "Little Shop of Horrors" A big thank you goes out to our Arts Department (Adam, Steven, Rick and Christie) for assisting our students in this magical performance. 

Just a few things of note: 

• Please join us on March 1st at 8:45, following the morning PA coffee, for an information session on Google Classroom Guardian. We anticipate having this feature available to parents by March 10, 2017. See last week's Blog for more information. 

• ISY families have received a link to the Re-enrollment Survey 2017-2018 from the Admissions Office on February 24. The Business Office has sent invoices for the non-refundable re-enrollment deposit. Families must respond to the survey as well as pay the non-refundable US$ 1000 deposit by the March 24, 2017, deadline to secure their children's seats for the following school year. March 24 - Deadline to respond to Re-enrollment Survey & pay re-enrollment deposit.

A New Initiative to Help Parents be Connected and Informed

A New Initiative in Secondary to Help Parents be Connected and Informed

In keeping with our Secondary goals of increasing collaboration and the use of meaningful technology, we are excited to announce the long-awaited Google Guardian Summary, which will be available to ISY Secondary parents the week of March 10, 2017. 

Guardian Summary allow parents to stay informed of what is happening in your child's classes without having to ask them to physically show you their computer. As with any new initiative, the next few months will be used to refine and structure the process. To help with this, we will be requesting your ongoing feedback.

 

Guardian email summaries will include a listing of the following:

• Missing work: Work that’s late at the time the email was sent
• Upcoming work: Work that’s due today and tomorrow or the upcoming week.
• ​​Class activity: Announcements, assignments, and questions recently posted by teachers

​Guardian email summaries will not include:

• Grades or student progress
• Links or attachments
• Two-way communication

Identified areas to be aware of:

• The summaries are brief and will contain abbreviations. We will provide a list of well-used abbreviations, but the list may not be exhaustive.

• Not all classes will post with the same frequency. Instead of imposing an artificial quantity of required posts, teachers will post as frequently as necessary.

• Not all posts will make complete sense to you as parents. The announcements and assignments are designed to communicate with students. The goal of the guardian summary is to provide "conversation starters" for parents to be able to ask better questions and develop a deeper understanding as to what is occurring in class.

• Students can select the done button next to an assignment even if the assignment has not been submitted giving the appearance that the work was submitted.

• Long term projects will only appear in the summary one week from the deadline date.

Parent Education:

• In the upcoming weeks, Mr. Hallwood, Technology Facilitator, will be emailing additional information and guidance to parents to ensure a smooth transition.
• Morning information session will take place on March 1, 2017, at 8:45 AM after the PA coffee in the cafeteria.
• Individual training and explanations are available to parents upon request.

This past weekend we had a great deal going on with SEASAC Tennis, Rugby, Basketball and a local soccer tournament. Thank you to all those who supported our students in events. A huge thank you to Tom Just and his team for hosting SEASAC Tennis. Thank you to the following coaches: Pryor, AG, Powers, Preston, Cvengros and Hallwood.

Just a few reminders:

• Tickets to the upcoming musical, Little Shop of Horrors are now on sale in building B
• Lost and found items are on display near the Library. On Friday all uncollected items will be donated. 
• Please notify the admissions office if you know you will be leaving ISY at the end of the year.

The ISY Chinthes boys football team has progressed to the final round of the 11-a-side International Schools Football Tournament. They will play PISM in the semifinals at Yangon United's field on Saturday, Feb 11 at 7:00 am. Finals round is the next day in the afternoon of Sunday, Feb 12.
